Atlas Chalk Is Live: Free Football Play Designer
Atlas Chalk is open. It is a free football play designer for coaches: you build plays from menus, adjust them by hand, keep them in a playbook, and print a play sheet, a call sheet and QB wristband cards from the same place.
This post covers what the designer does today, what one coach gets for free, what the paid program plan adds, and what is coming next.
What it does
Start with two picks. Choose a formation and a concept from the menus and Atlas Chalk draws the play for you. On offense there are 16 formations and 31 concepts. On defense there are 11 fronts, 10 coverages and 7 pressure and stunt concepts.
From there the drawing is yours. Drag players where you want them and draw routes, blocks, motion and zone drops by hand. Everything snaps to the half-yard, so lines stay clean, and it works with a finger on a tablet.
Your staff probably has its own names for formations and concepts. Type them in as aliases and Atlas Chalk matches them to what it knows, so the menus speak your terminology.
Saved plays go into a playbook library where you tag each one by situation. From the library you can print:
- A PDF play sheet with the diagrams.
- A call sheet and QB wristband cards in one PDF. The sheet is grouped by situation, and each play gets one number that matches on the sheet and the band.
- Wristband cards in two sizes: Adult (4.75 by 2.75 inches) or Youth (4 by 2.25 inches).

One coach can use Atlas Chalk for free with no credit card. The program plan is for staffs that want more coaches and the player portal.

The player portal is for high school and college programs. Coaches assign plays and players study them as flash cards. It is invite only, and players need an authenticator app to sign in. It is not available for youth or middle school programs.
What's coming
The designer and the printouts are the base. These are the next pieces we are building on top of them:
- AI play recommendations against the defense you will face, based on success rate.
- Uploading a photo or scan of an existing playbook so you do not have to redraw it.
- Film breakdown.
- Opponent tendencies.
None of these are live yet. When they ship, they will show up in the same app and work with the plays you have already drawn.
